The Battle of Resaca was a key engagement in the American Civil War that took place in Georgia in May 1864. It was fought between the Union Army, led by Major General William Tecumseh Sherman, and the Confederate Army of Tennessee, led by General Joseph E. Johnston. The Union army emerged victorious, establishing a foothold in Georgia and paving the way for Sherman's "March to the Sea" campaign, which ultimately resulted in the capture of Atlanta and significant destruction in the state.
