Archeonlaan 1, Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands
The Vikings had a terrible reputation in the early Middle Ages. After looting the monastery at Lindisfarne in England (AD 793), the infamous Dragon Ships were suddenly everywhere. They were also spotted in the area that would later become the Netherlands. At Wijk bij Duurstede there was a rich harbor called Dorestad. Time and time again this treasure was burnt, in the end nothing of the city remains.
Visit the Vikings encampment and browse the many market stalls. On Saturday and Sunday the Vikings give weapon and fighting demonstrations on the tournament field.
