The Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is a medieval castle located in the commune of Orschwiller in the Bas-Rhin département of Alsace, France.
Highlights
- The living quarters and keep: Visit the lower courtyard, with the inn, fountain, and forge. Climb the flight of steps leading to the drawbridge to the inner courtyard. Here, a hexagonal stairway, restored in the early 20th century, leads to the upper floors and living quarters.
- Southern living quarters: a collection of bladed weapons dating from the end of the Middle Ages is exhibited
- The Empresses chamber: authentic furniture and wood stove and the modernity of the Imperial kitchens installed on the third floor in the early 20th century
- The medieval garden: the garden is composed of square planting areas enclosed by low wicker trellis sections, rose bushes, vegetable plots, medicinal plants, and a flower garden
